So it’s been a while… What’s going on with spellcaster?


Hello all. Somewhat of a disappointing update today. I have decided that I am no longer releasing the full version of SpellCaster. Development on the game has certainly been slow, but recently a number of massive oversights on my part finally revealed themselves to me, and it has significantly affected my willingness to work on this project. To be specific, several major gameplay systems within this game were programmed in such ridiculously stupid ways that they were having significant negative effects on the game. I’m honestly embarrassed to admit some of these oversights.  Put simply, lots of things in the game are programmed in dumb ways because I didn’t know any better when making the game’s basic template, (which I then duplicated ~25 times to make all of the currently completed levels). At this point, in order to fix the existing levels I would have to implement a stupid amount of programming more than 25 times over; something I’m neither willing to do nor have the time for. All of this said, I plan to release a trimmed version of SpellCaster at some point in the future.  The cut features in this version of the game will be: 

- The final two worlds of the game (so 30 levels instead of 50)

-The secret second ending (although I’ll leave some parts of it in even if you can’t access it completely)

The reason these features are being cut is because I am willing to finish the current world I am on in the games current state, and nothing more. This version of the game will include the shitty programming mentioned previously. I am unsure when this version of the game will release, (partially because of something I’ll mention in a moment), but can confirm that it will be free. I don’t feel right charging for a significantly trimmed version of the game, especially using such bad code.

Now all this being said… I am not done making games. In fact, there’s a new, rapidly progressing project in the works, right now. I am much more confident in this project, and I’m being MUCH more careful when making it’s base system, so that I never have issues like what happened with SpellCaster again. Keep your eyes peeled for my new project, SHELLSLINGER!
